Travel Qs & recs for our interstate faves

Howdy! This is info for if you are thinking about travelling to Melbs to celebrate with us & also any Qs our locals might have too!

Studley Grounds is a cafe/restaurant on a public golf course - it has heaps of parking so if you want to leave your car for a sleepover and pop back on Sunday morning that's okay AND you can grab a coffee for any hangover you may or may not be nursing.

If you are travelling via Public Transport it can be a little bit tricky in Kew - the closest train station is Victoria Park in Collingwood, then there is a bus that can get you 200m away from Studley Grounds. Use this link to plan out your journey but please note: Melbourne buses are notoriously crappy so it may be worth organising a lift or grabbing an Uber/Didi/Taxi.

For our travellers: here is some info on where to stay & what to do

Accom

Airbnbs & hotels are popular around this area of Melbourne. Suburbs that may have some cute options that are pretty close & have good PT for getting around are Fitzroy, Collingwood, Abbotsford, Richmond, Carlton and Camberwell.

If you wanted to stay in the CBD that would also be a pretty straightforward trip out to Studley Grounds, it's only 6km from the city.

Where to Eat & Drink

Fitzroy, Abbotsford & Richmond are all quite close to SG and would be our fave suburbs for excellent dining! There are so many options and pretty much everything is great.

We know our audience so will give you the lowdown on the local pubs first:

Park Hotel in Abbotsford - best beer garden going around

Retreat Hotel in Abbotsford - cosy vibes, very much a country pub energy

Skinny Dog in Kew - Jack's favourite parma in Melbs

Postmaster Hotel in Kew - slightly more elevated pub food in a great spot

Richmond Club Hotel in Richmond - great energy & close to all the sporting action

Corner Hotel in Richmond - excellent views and great food

Walking along Victoria Street in Abbotsford you will see some of the best Vietnamese food in Melbourne - Ruby's favourite pho is at Pho Hung Vuong 2, Jack loves the menu at Loi Loi and the best banh mi is Hung's Bakery (and will always have less of a line). A little further down you'll also find Rubes' old local & forever fave Thai spot for cheap & easy dinner: Tom Toon.

Fitzroy is amazing and is known for having some of the best food but can also be a little exxy too. Lune has award-winning croissants, Nico's Sandwich Deli is a weekend must-have & Tora Dumplings are delish!

Richmond is the sporting centre of Melbourne & has enough restaurants to support the thousands of people who leave Essendon games early ;) Your best bet for finding a good spot to eat or drink is genuinely just to wander down either Bridge Road or Swan Street - there are places everywhere!

Honourable Mentions

Fried Chicken: Jack is obsessed with Belle's Hot Chicken in Fitzroy

Brunch: Three Bags Full in Abbotsford is where we met for the first time

Bar: House of Plants in Abbotsford is possibly the coolest bar we know

Greek: Stalactites in the CBD is The Place for late night gyros

Wine Bar: Rocket Wine in Fairfield is a touch further out of the city than the rest of our recs but is our favourite for great drinks. They let you order dinner from the excellent Italian restaurant across the road (Flour & Salt) and you can finish your night with the best ice cream at Gelato Papa next door before you jump on the train back to your accom (which is also right next to the bar).

Wine Bar: if you want to experience proper Melbourne wankery while sipping good wine head to Glou in Fitzroy.
